I walked into ComplexCon with a camera and an invite. I walked out with thirteen conversations, a hard drive full of booth footage, and one interview I’ll be replaying for a while.

Most coverage of ComplexCon shows you the merch lines and the crowd shots. I wanted to show you who is actually in the building and what they have to say. So I shot the whole thing for the Wavcheck YouTube channel. The full vlog is below.

The Babyface Ray Conversation

Babyface Ray gave me the best moment of the day. He talked about life, the come up, and what it takes to be successful, and he spoke plainly. No rehearsed talking points. If you’re building anything right now, a page, a brand, a sound, this is the part of the vlog to watch first.

Everyone I Ran Into

The day was a mix of names with catalogs and names about to have one. I caught Veeze, Ab Soul, and Babyface Ray, plus Jordan Rose and Eem Triplin. On the newer side of the culture I spoke with Diorvsyou, Dc2trill, CardoGotWings, thirteendegrees, Raud, Smack, Chow Lee, and Fergie Baby.

That range is why ComplexCon matters for hip-hop media. Established names and artists still building their audience stand in the same room, and the interviews show it. Wavcheck has always covered both ends of the culture, and this was the clearest example yet.

Booths Worth Your Attention

I spent a lot of the day with the camera on the booths. Six brands stood out: Laams, STFU, bully.bu, Not An Influencer, Loso, and BB Icecream. The footage is in the vlog, so you can see them for yourself.

Pay attention to this lane. Streetwear and youth culture brands are some of the places hip-hop’s next wave gets seen first, and the booths people line up for tell you where taste is heading.

The Performances

Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely both performed. These are two artists Wavcheck has covered closely, so seeing them on a ComplexCon stage felt like a payoff. The underground is no longer a side room. It has a main stage.

Why I Shot It This Way

I went in to document the culture from the inside, with no script and no studio lighting. Interviews, b-roll, and conversations that happen when you’re standing next to people who live this. That is the direction Wavcheck is moving: more faces, more access, more of the real thing.
